We now have two days and about a thousand miles under our belts. On our second day we made it through the rest of Illinois, Kentucky and most of Tennessee. Although we are excited to get to Disney World, we are still taking things at a leisurely pace.
We made one stop on day two to check out the town of Metropolis, IL. I have had my eye on this town since I wrote about it in On the Way Wednesdays a while back. There are three roadside attractions in Metropolis. We stopped at two of them. Unfortunately, Lois Lane didn’t make the cut…
Of course no visit to Metropolis would be complete without seeing Superman. We made the man of steel (or should we say man of bronze) our first stop.
Our second stop was to see Big John, or as we have been calling him… Grocery Man!
Now, I’m not sure who came first, Superman or Big John, but if Big John came first, I would say that the folks in Metropolis could have made Superman a bit more super. Big John is twice the size of Superman and definitely upstages our super hero. the hair is similar though. Is it possible that our super hero is a grocery clerk by day? You be the judge…
We decide to call it a day in Manchester, TN. We stayed at the KOA there. Mr Happy Camper and I like KOAs. I know that sometimes they get a bad rep, and in the past that may have been deserved, but they have really stepped up the quality. With few exceptions we think they are great campgrounds. The Manchester KOA didn’t disapoint. It is cozy with only 54 sites, but it has all of the amenities. It has a nice pool and hot tub, a dog park for the pups and free cable and internet. We will be giving it a five star review!
We are on the road again now. We are hoping to make it through the rest of Tennessee, Georgia and into northern Florida today. Tune in tomorrow to see what we discover along the way!
